1X Opens 58,000 sq ft Factory to Build 10,000 Humanoids in Year One

TSLATSLA

1X Technologies has opened a 58,000 sq ft California factory to build 10,000 consumer humanoid robots in its first year, targeting shipments by end of 2026 and 100,000 units by 2027. Its $20,000 Neo model competes with Tesla's forthcoming Optimus in home assistance and elder care.

1. Factory Launch

1X Technologies has inaugurated a 58,000-square-foot manufacturing hub in Hayward, California, to serve as its primary production site for consumer humanoid robots. The facility was completed within months and precedes a planned relocation of headquarters to San Carlos as the company scales operations.

2. Production Targets and Shipments

The new plant is equipped to produce 10,000 Neo humanoids in its first 12 months, with shipments scheduled by the end of 2026. Leadership projects annual output will reach 100,000 units by the close of 2027, leveraging a $20,000 price point and optical upgrades to drive consumer adoption.

3. Market Competition and Context

1X’s expansion intensifies competition with Tesla’s Optimus program and Chinese manufacturers that accounted for most of the 13,000 humanoids shipped globally last year. US-based production remains rare, positioning 1X as a significant domestic contender in the consumer robotics segment.
