$95M Reliability Project Halves Outages for 16,500 JCP&L Customers

FirstEnergy’s JCP&L has reached the halfway point of its $95 million New Jersey Reliability Improvement Project, delivering over an 80% reduction in power outages for roughly 16,500 customers in Morris and Monmouth counties in 2025. It covers upgrades on 18 circuits and joins a $28 billion grid modernization effort through 2029.

1. Midpoint Achieved and Outage Reductions

JCP&L has reached the midway mark of its $95 million New Jersey Reliability Improvement Project, delivering more than an 80% reduction in outages for about 16,500 customers in Morris and Monmouth counties during 2025. The work includes reinforcing poles and wires, relocating vulnerable lines underground and deploying smart devices and enhanced vegetation management to minimize service interruptions.

2. Upcoming Circuit Upgrades

The project targets 18 circuits across the service area, with seven circuits already upgraded and three more under construction this month. Remaining early-2026 phases include upgrades in Hunterdon, Southern Ocean and Warren counties—covering over seven miles of new overhead line and 1,000 feet of underground cable in Hunterdon, a 4.3-mile line in Southern Ocean and nine miles of upgrades in Warren—to boost reliability for nearly 10,000 additional customers by year-end.

3. Integration with Long-term Grid Modernization

This initiative is part of FirstEnergy’s broader $28 billion Energize365 program running through 2029, aiming to modernize and strengthen its grid operations. JCP&L’s 1.2 million customers across New Jersey are expected to benefit from enhanced system resilience and faster restoration times as these investments advance.
