ABB wins order from Kawasaki Heavy to supply control system for Japan liquefied hydrogen terminal

ABB won an order from Kawasaki Heavy Industries to supply its Ability System 800xA distributed control system for the Kawasaki LH2 Terminal.

• The Ogishima facility is positioned as Japan’s first commercial-scale liquefied hydrogen terminal, designed to scale supply beyond pilot projects.
• Scope includes System 800xA integrated with a SIL 3 safety instrumented system, plus redundant AC 800M controllers and server infrastructure.
• The terminal’s demonstration phase is expected to be completed by 2030, supporting Japan’s plans for an international liquefied hydrogen supply chain.
• The project follows ABB’s prior work on the Hy touch Kobe liquefied hydrogen terminal under the HESC pilot program.
