AbbVie expands Oxford R&D facility as part of £120 million-plus investment
ABBV•AbbVie expanded its Oxford research and development facility as part of an investment of more than £120 million ($161 million). The new 12,000-square-foot site will broaden research in immunology, neuroscience and oncology.
1. Expanded research facility
The new site, known as AbbVie Oxford, will broaden the company’s research capabilities across immunology, neuroscience and oncology. The investment builds on capabilities gained through AbbVie’s 2022 acquisition of Oxford-based DJS Antibodies.
2. Research and collaborations
AbbVie said the investment will support work to identify new disease targets and combination therapies in areas with significant unmet medical need. The company works with more than 100 UK universities and research organisations each year and is expanding academic collaborations, including with the University of Oxford.
3. UK operations
One Oxford collaboration is studying how patients with certain inflammatory diseases respond to treatments over the course of their illness, aiming to help guide future drug development. AbbVie employs more than 1,100 people across its UK operations in Oxford, Maidenhead and Marlow.
