ACN•The FBI removed an unidentified contractor after a security failure exposed sensitive personal details of thousands of bureau employees. Sources identified Accenture as the third-party organization and Oracle PeopleSoft as the platform involved.
The FBI said it removed a contractor after a failure to install a security patch on a platform managed by a third-party organization. FBI cyber chief Brett Leatherman said the bureau had taken steps to mitigate further risk and protect its workforce.
Two sources identified the third-party organization as Accenture and the platform as Oracle’s PeopleSoft human resources system. The hacking group ShinyHunters said it exploited the platform to break into the FBI’s job site last month. Accenture said it was proud to support the FBI and would continue to do so; Oracle did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
