ADP April Jobs Surge 109,000; Job-Stayer Pay Growth 4.4%
Private sector employment rose by 109,000 jobs in April, led by 61,000 roles in education/health services and 25,000 in trade/transportation/utilities; goods-producing sectors added 15,000 positions. Annual pay for job-stayers increased 4.4% year-over-year, while pay gains for job-changers held at 6.6%.

April’s private-sector payrolls expanded by 109,000 jobs, marking the fastest monthly increase since January 2025. Health care contributed 61,000 of those roles while trade, transportation, and utilities added 25,000 positions.
2. Sector Contributors
Goods-producing sectors added 15,000 roles, including 10,000 in construction and 3,000 in natural resources/mining. Service-providing industries accounted for 94,000 hires, with 9,000 in financial activities, 4,000 in information, 4,000 in leisure/hospitality and a net loss of 8,000 in professional/business services.
3. Regional and Size Trends
The West led regional gains with 46,000 jobs, followed by the South (34,000), Northeast (18,000) and Midwest (11,000). Small establishments (fewer than 50 employees) added 65,000 jobs, large employers (500+ employees) contributed 42,000, and medium firms added 2,000 positions.
4. Pay Trends
Annual pay for job-stayers rose 4.4% in April, with large and medium firms each reporting about 4.8% growth and small firms seeing 2.5%–4.1% increases. Job-changers sustained a 6.6% year-over-year pay gain, maintaining stronger wage growth for workers switching roles.
