Advaya Capital Buys Comscore Movies Unit Tracking 95% Global Box Office
SCOR•Advaya Capital completed its acquisition of Comscore’s Movies division, which tracks 95% of global and nearly 100% of North American box office across 34,000 theaters and 200,000 screens. The business will rebrand as Rentrak and Advaya plans AI-driven investments to expand international datasets and launch new analytics products.
1. Transaction Completion
On May 27, Advaya Capital finalized its acquisition of Comscore Movies, transferring ownership of the theatrical box office measurement business to a private platform. Upon closing, the division reverted to its original Rentrak name, restoring its historic brand identity.
2. Division’s Data Coverage
Comscore Movies collects transaction-level data from approximately 34,000 theaters and over 200,000 screens in more than 70 countries, covering roughly 95% of the global box office and nearly 100% of North America. Studios, distributors and exhibitors rely on this dataset for release strategies, financial settlements and talent compensation.
3. Advaya’s Strategic Plans
Advaya Capital will maintain the existing platform while investing in AI to automate data collection, enhance descriptive and predictive analytics, and develop new products that bridge theatrical releases with streaming. The firm aims to deepen international market penetration and build actionable intelligence tools for studios, distributors and exhibitors.
