A regulatory decision is expected in early 2027, construction is slated for 2027, and commercial operation is targeted for summer 2030.
I&M expects roughly 1,200 construction jobs and 30-40 permanent roles. The company said the plant would help cut market power purchases and reduce exposure to price volatility.
I&M also said the investment is already reflected in its upcoming rate-reduction filing and non-fuel rate freeze.
Indiana Michigan Power files for Rockport natural gas plant
AEP unit Indiana Michigan Power filed with Indiana regulators to build a 1,520-MW natural gas combined-cycle plant at its Rockport site.
The project targets baseload capacity as demand in I&M’s Indiana service area is projected to more than double by the early 2030s.
