Agilysys Q3 EPS Miss Sparks 10% Plunge Despite 66% Recurring Revenue

AGYSAGYS

Agilysys reported Q3 EPS of $0.42, missing the Zacks estimate of $0.46 and down from $0.38 a year ago, triggering an extended-hours stock drop of over 10%. The company generates two-thirds of revenue from recurring software and is expanding into cruise ships and casino deployments.

1. Post-Earnings Stock Decline Despite Strong Results

Agilysys reported a beat-and-raise quarter, surpassing consensus revenue and non-GAAP earnings estimates, yet its shares dropped more than 10% on release day. The sell-off pushed the stock approximately 30% below its mid-quarter highs, creating a price pullback that investors may view as a buying opportunity given the company’s demonstrated execution.

2. High Recurring Revenue Base Provides Stability

Approximately two-thirds of Agilysys’s revenue is recurring, reflecting ongoing subscription and support contracts for its hospitality software suite. These contracts are underpinned by complex, multi-phase implementations, resulting in high customer retention rates. The company also reported attach rates above 60% on new deals, highlighting strong cross-sell traction.

3. Diversification Beyond Traditional Hotel Market

While hotels remain Agilysys’s core vertical, the company is gaining traction in cruise ships and gaming properties, including casinos and resorts. Cross-sell products such as the Book4Time spa and wellness system and advanced foodservice management solutions contributed to pipeline growth of 15% year-over-year in these segments, reducing customer concentration risk.

4. Compelling Entry Point for Long-Term Investors

Following the 30% share-price pullback, Agilysys’s valuation multiples have contracted to near five-year lows, despite guidance for mid-single-digit revenue growth next fiscal year and expanding operating margins. With management’s track record of converting backlog into billings and the recurring revenue model supporting cash flow, investors may find the current level attractive for initiating or adding to positions.
