DH•Definitive Healthcare says aging-focused therapies could address a broad market, as the population over 60 is projected to double to 2.1 billion by 2050. GLP-1 research on dementia and Alzheimer's grew more than 17-fold from 2010 to 2025, while a Novo Nordisk trial found oral semaglutide did not significantly slow Alzheimer's progression.
Aging-focused therapies offer a potentially broad market for drugmakers, though most development programs remain early-stage. The global population over 60 is projected to double to 2.1 billion by 2050, increasing healthcare demand. GLP-1 research activity involving dementia and Alzheimer's grew more than 17-fold from 2010 to 2025.
Life Biosciences' ER-100 became the first partial epigenetic reprogramming therapy to enter human trials in June 2026, targeting optic neuropathies. Novo Nordisk's Phase 3 EVOKE and EVOKE+ trials found oral semaglutide did not significantly slow Alzheimer's progression.
