Airbus CFO says EU antitrust talks on satellite merger are constructive but not concluded
Airbus CFO Thomas Toepfer said discussions with EU antitrust authorities over a planned satellite-business merger with Leonardo and Thales were constructive but unfinished. Airbus still aims to sign a definitive agreement in 2026 and close the transaction in 2027, subject to the competition review.
1. Antitrust talks continue
Airbus CFO Thomas Toepfer said discussions with European antitrust authorities on the planned combination of Airbus’ satellite business with those of Leonardo and Thales were constructive but had not concluded. He said Airbus remained positive, while noting that the timing was not fully under the company’s control.
2. Target dates remain
The three groups announced plans in 2025 to combine their satellite manufacturing activities in a standalone company. Airbus still aims to sign a definitive agreement in 2026 and close the transaction in 2027; the project requires approval from the EU competition authority.
