Akamai signs $11.6 billion cloud deal with Anthropic, grants warrant for up to 5% stake
AKAM•Akamai signed a seven-year, $11.6 billion cloud services deal with Anthropic and issued a warrant that could give the AI company up to a 5% stake. Akamai estimates about $5.5 billion in capital expenditure for the commitment and expects its 2026 capital spending to rise by about $1.7 billion.
1. Seven-year cloud agreement
Akamai Technologies signed a seven-year cloud services agreement with Anthropic. Its warrant gives Anthropic the right to buy Series B shares at $111.33 each, convertible into about 7.7 million Akamai common shares. About 2% of Akamai’s common stock outstanding is tied to Anthropic’s $11.6 billion commitment; the remaining 3% would vest if the companies expand the agreement by up to another $9 billion.
2. Spending and share move
Akamai estimated capital expenditure related to the initial commitment at about $5.5 billion. The company expects no impact on its annual revenue forecast and expects 2026 capital spending to increase by about $1.7 billion to secure and pre-purchase components, including memory. Akamai shares rose 22% in extended trading. Separately, Akamai authorized Jabil to purchase about $1.7 billion worth of memory components under an existing services agreement.
