Akanda Plans Expansion of 700-km Dark Fiber Network Under 20-Year Telefónica Lease

AKANAKAN

Akanda’s First Towers & Fiber Corp. operates a 700-km dark fiber network—the largest in Central Mexico—under a 20-year lease with Telefónica for two fiber pairs, and also leases capacity to Marcatel. The company will pursue additional lease agreements throughout 2026 to boost recurring revenue with minimal capital investment.

1. Largest Central Mexico Dark Fiber Network

Akanda’s First Towers & Fiber subsidiary manages approximately 700 kilometres of dark fiber infrastructure, making it the region’s largest network. This system serves key industrial corridors and some of the fastest-growing state economies across Central Mexico.

2. Established Anchor Tenants

The network was built following a 20-year lease agreement with Telefónica, which currently leases two fiber pairs as the anchor tenant. FTF also provides dark fiber capacity to Marcatel, benefiting from a design that supports multiple additional tenants with built-in scalability and redundancy.

3. Expansion and Recurring Revenue Strategy

FTF plans to initiate new lease agreements in 2026, leveraging its regional presence and operational experience to secure further tenants. This strategy aims to drive incremental recurring revenue growth while requiring limited additional capital investment.
