Alcon Provides $60M Upfront for Joint Adjustable PCIOL Development with RxSight
RXST•RxSight secured a $60 million upfront payment from Alcon under a non-exclusive license to co-develop adjustable presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses combining RxSight’s light-adjustable platform with Alcon’s optics. The agreement offers RxSight up to $140 million more in development and regulatory milestone payments plus royalties on global sales led by Alcon.
1. Collaboration Agreement Details
RxSight and Alcon entered a non-exclusive license agreement to co-develop adjustable presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses (PCIOLs). The collaboration will integrate RxSight’s post-operative light-adjustable lens technology with Alcon’s proprietary PCIOL optical designs to enable fine-tuning of visual outcomes after cataract surgery.
2. Financial Terms and Milestones
Under the deal, RxSight received a $60 million upfront payment and stands to earn up to $140 million in additional development and regulatory milestone payments. RxSight will also receive royalties on net sales once Alcon leads global commercialization of the co-developed PCIOLs.
3. Roles in Development and Commercialization
RxSight is responsible for development and manufacturing of the adjustable PCIOLs, leveraging its light-adjustable lens platform. Alcon will manage global commercialization, drawing on its extensive surgical optics portfolio and distribution network spanning over 140 countries.
