Aldi cuts U.S. grocery prices for fall season amid inflation, competition pressure
XLP•Aldi lowers U.S. grocery prices for fall
Sept. 23 (Reuters) - Private discount grocer Aldi said on Wednesday it would lower prices on a range of grocery items in the U.S. this fall, a move the company estimates will save shoppers about $86 million as consumers continue to grapple with inflation.
Competition for value-seeking shoppers remains intense
The announcement comes as U.S. grocery retailers compete aggressively for value-seeking shoppers who remain selective about spending as they struggle with higher gas prices and economic uncertainty.
Larger peers including Kroger and Walmart are keeping their prices low to win over cost-conscious shoppers.
The fall price reductions will be effective from September 23 until at least November 3 at all Aldi stores in the U.S.
Newly reduced items include Autumncrisp grapes, Bartlett pears, Brussels sprouts and a wide range of apples and potatoes.
