Algonquin Power & Utilities attributes Q3 2026 earnings decline to higher interest expense, wildfire costs
AQN•Algonquin Power & Utilities’ third-quarter net earnings from continuing operations fell 19% to $57.6 million, while adjusted net earnings rose 28% to $88.1 million. Revenue increased 10% to $642.5 million.
1. Earnings and costs
Management attributed third-quarter 2026 earnings pressure to higher interest expense, fire-related charges and operating costs. Mountain View Fire charges totaled $16.6 million, and the planned sale of Chilean operations triggered an $8.3 million loss. Revenue growth was primarily driven by higher utility rates and favorable weather at Empire District’s Missouri electric system.
2. Debt repayment
Corporate Group net losses narrowed by $18.8 million, primarily reflecting lower interest expense after the repayment of $1.15 billion in debt.
