Alibaba’s Coding Plan Bundles Four AI Models, Challenging Google Cloud

GOOGLGOOGL

Alibaba Cloud launched a coding plan on Feb. 25 bundling four open-source models—Qwen3.5, GLM-5, MiniMax M2.5 and Kimi K2.5—into a single subscription, allowing developers to switch freely among eight programming-focused models. This unique multi-model offering intensifies competition for Google Cloud’s AI services by simplifying access and raising token thresholds.

1. Alibaba Cloud’s New Coding Plan

On February 25, Alibaba Cloud introduced its Model Studio Coding Plan, offering developers API access to Qwen3.5, GLM-5, MiniMax M2.5 and Kimi K2.5 under one subscription. Users can switch among eight programming-focused models without separate contracts or endpoints.

2. Model Details and Capabilities

Qwen3.5 features 397 billion total parameters (17 billion activated) for multimodal tasks; GLM-5 is Zhipu AI’s flagship open-source model; MiniMax M2.5 focuses on agent-based Office tasks; Kimi K2.5 improves coding and agent performance.

3. Competitive Implications for Google Cloud

By offering flexible model access and higher token limits in a single plan, Alibaba Cloud undercuts traditional single-model cloud offerings. This move could pressure Google Cloud to adjust its AI developer pricing and API capabilities to retain market share.
