Alphabet’s Google Cloud Powers Home Depot AI and Adds UCP Direct-Checkout
Home Depot integrated Google Cloud’s Gemini models into its Magic Apron assistant and AI product list builders, driving expectations of 3% total sales growth in fiscal 2025. Commerce endorsed Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol to enable direct checkout within Search AI Mode and the Gemini app for eligible US retailers.
1. Home Depot Deepens Agentic AI Collaboration with Google Cloud
Home Depot has broadened its strategic alliance with Google Cloud to embed Google’s Gemini models into its customer-facing tools. The retailer will upgrade its Magic Apron assistant to provide real-time, context-aware guidance to both DIY homeowners and professional contractors, and introduce AI-driven product list builders that generate optimized material and tool recommendations instantly. These enhancements will also extend into Google Search’s new AI Mode and the standalone Gemini app, enabling seamless discovery of Home Depot inventory within Google’s AI interfaces. Management forecasts this initiative will contribute to approximately 3% total sales growth in fiscal 2025, with comparable-store sales turning slightly positive. However, by leveraging advanced AI, Home Depot anticipates a roughly 5% decline in adjusted diluted EPS for the year, primarily due to upfront technology investments and integration costs.
2. Alphabet’s Advertising Engine and Gemini App Anchor Long-Term Growth
Alphabet’s core advertising business generated $74 billion in digital ad revenue in the third quarter of fiscal 2025—73% of total revenues and up 13% year-over-year—positioning it as the undisputed leader in a market projected to grow at a 15% compound annual rate through 2030. Concurrently, Alphabet is monetizing its Gemini AI app, which has amassed 650 million monthly active users since its launch. Beginning in early 2026, free users of Gemini will be served targeted ads, unlocking a new high-margin revenue stream. This dual strategy—sustained digital ad growth complemented by AI-driven monetization—underpins management’s confidence that Alphabet can convert its massive user base and search volume into continued profit and market share gains over the next decade.
