Alps Group Launches PDO Program to Establish Malaysia's First Clinically Validated Organoid Platform
ALPS•Alps Group Inc launched an internal patient-derived organoid program targeting personalized cancer treatment and preclinical drug screening in Malaysia, partnering with Dr. Kong Wai Mun. The company aims to establish the country’s first clinically validated PDO platform, pursue MREC ethics approval and MDA registration, and create a national PDO biobank.
1. PDO Program Launch
Alps Group Inc has entered a Research and Collaboration Agreement with Dr. Kong Wai Mun to launch an internal patient-derived organoid program focused on personalized cancer treatment and preclinical drug screening. This initiative integrates 3D “mini-tumor” models derived from patient tissue into Alps’ existing genomics and clinical delivery platform.
2. Strategic Market Opportunity
The global human organoids market is valued at USD 91.8 million in 2026 and projected to reach USD 349.5 million by 2036 at a 14.3% CAGR, while the personalized cancer treatment market stands at USD 222.54 billion in 2026, rising to USD 332.37 billion by 2030 at a 10.5% CAGR. Alps plans to capture a share of these expanding markets by offering clinical validation and preclinical screening services.
3. Regulatory and Commercial Plans
Alps aims to secure Malaysia Research Ethics Committee (MREC) approval and Medical Device Authority (MDA) registration to support clinical deployment and commercialization of its PDO platform. These regulatory milestones are critical steps toward integrating PDO assays into standard oncology workflows and obtaining reimbursement.
4. Biobank and Regional Hub Development
The company will establish a national PDO biobank to support pharmaceutical and CRO partnerships, with initial clinical interest from six major Malaysian oncology centers. Long term, Alps seeks to position Malaysia as a regional hub for PDO-based translational research and licensing services.
