1. Alstom Secures 2.3 Billion CAD Contract for Toronto Subway Expansion

On 15 January 2026, Alstom S.A. finalised a 2.3 billion Canadian-dollar agreement with the Toronto Transit Commission to supply 70 six-car New Subway Trains (NSTs) for Lines 1 and 2 of the Toronto network, with options for up to 150 additional trainsets. Fifty-five trains will replace the existing fleet on Line 2, while the remaining 15 will serve the Yonge North and Scarborough extensions. All design and engineering work will take place in Canada, with final assembly at Alstom’s Thunder Bay facility and testing in Kingston, generating up to 945 direct jobs—over 600 at Alstom—and an estimated 1,700 indirect positions among national suppliers of Canadian steel and aluminium.

2. German Coradia Max Order Boosts Alstom’s Regional Mobility Footprint

Alstom signed a roughly €500 million contract on 15 January 2026 with the Landesanstalt Schienenfahrzeuge Baden-Württemberg to deliver 26 additional Coradia Max double-deck EMUs and provide full-service maintenance through 2055. Scheduled for entry into service from December 2026 to late 2028, each 106-metre, four-car trainset features 380 seats, barrier-free access, multi-purpose areas, free Wi-Fi, charging ports and a top speed of 200 km/h. The order, stemming from a May 2022 option on an initial 130-train framework, reinforces Alstom’s FlexCare Perform long-term service model and supports the state’s goal of enhanced capacity, reliability and energy efficiency ahead of the Stuttgart 21 rail hub launch.
