Altimmune's drug meets main goal of mid-stage study for alcohol use disorder

Altimmune said it plans to seek a meeting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to discuss next steps.

Shares of the Gaithersburg, Maryland-based company rose over 15% in premarket trading.

July 28 (Reuters) - Altimmune said on Tuesday its experimental drug met the main goal of a mid-stage trial to help people with alcohol use disorder.

The company tested the drug, pemvidutide, in patients with moderate to severe alcohol use disorder.

Patients taking a 2.4 mg dose of the drug reduced their heavy drinking days by significantly more than those on placebo, Altimmune said.
