AMZNAMZN

Amazon Web Services joined an open-source x402 AI payments protocol under the Linux Foundation with 20 other participants, enabling instant stablecoin settlements after roughly 97 million transactions on Coinbase Base. Separately, Amazon is in talks to acquire satellite internet firm Globalstar to bolster its broadband and Project Kuiper network.

1. AWS Joins x402 AI Payment Protocol

Amazon Web Services has become one of roughly 23 participants in the open-source x402 protocol housed under the Linux Foundation, alongside Coinbase, Stripe, Microsoft, Google and American Express. The protocol revives the HTTP 402 status code for instant stablecoin settlements and has processed around 97 million transactions on Coinbase’s Base blockchain.

2. Amazon’s Globalstar Acquisition Talks

Amazon has entered discussions to acquire satellite internet operator Globalstar, aiming to strengthen its connectivity infrastructure and support global broadband services. The potential deal would expand Amazon’s Project Kuiper footprint and position it to challenge existing low-earth orbit providers.

3. Strategic Implications for Amazon

By backing x402, Amazon diversifies AWS offerings into high-frequency, autonomous payment rails, while a Globalstar purchase would enhance its satellite network capabilities. These moves underscore a push into emerging fintech and space-based internet markets, with potential to generate new revenue streams and bolster competitive positioning.
