1. Acquisition of Fauna Robotics
Amazon has completed the purchase of Fauna Robotics, bringing the startup’s founders and employees into Amazon’s New York operations. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal transfers all Fauna assets, intellectual property and ongoing development projects to Amazon.
2. Sprout Humanoid Robot Platform
Fauna’s debut product, Sprout, is a 1.5-foot-tall, software-driven humanoid robot priced at $50,000. Designed for social interaction rather than heavy lifting, Sprout can dance, grasp small objects and navigate environments, and is delivered as a developer platform for academic and corporate research, with early customers such as Disney.
3. Strategic Robotics Expansion
This acquisition marks Amazon’s second major consumer robotics move after its canceled iRobot deal, aiming to diversify beyond warehouse automation. By adding a socially oriented humanoid platform, Amazon signals its intent to explore new robotics use cases in homes, schools and research labs.
