Amazon Commits Over £1bn to Northampton Fulfilment and Kettering Cross-Dock
AMZN•Amazon has opened a £500m, three-floor robotic fulfilment centre in Northampton storing tens of millions of items and set out plans for a 900,000ft², £500m Kettering cross-dock facility to handle 20m items weekly and create 2,000 permanent roles. These projects form part of its £40bn UK investment programme.
1. Northampton Fulfilment Centre Launch
Amazon has inaugurated a £500m fulfilment centre in Northampton featuring three floors of robotics operations that store tens of millions of items and generate over 2,000 permanent roles alongside hundreds of seasonal positions.
2. Planned Kettering Cross-Dock Facility
The company is developing a 900,000ft², £500m cross-dock site in Kettering, which will become the UK’s largest of its kind upon opening later this year, handling around 20 million items weekly and creating more than 2,000 permanent jobs.
3. Broader UK Investment Programme
These developments are part of Amazon’s £40bn UK investment plan for 2025–27, with over £15bn already deployed; the group now operates 100+ sites in the UK, employs around 75,000 permanent staff and has expanded its London HQ capacity to 6,000 employees.
