Amazon Expands Direct-to-Device Service with $11.6B Globalstar Acquisition

1. Amazon's Satellite Ambitions Take Shape
In April, Amazon struck a deal to buy Globalstar for $11.6 billion, gaining access to its constellation of low-earth-orbit satellites and existing subscriber base. The acquisition aims to deliver direct-to-device mobile phone services globally, positioning Amazon against established players in the satellite communications market such as Starlink.
