Amazon launches two new portable AI listening devices
AMZN•Amazon unveiled two Bee-branded AI listening devices: the Frontier bracelet, priced at $75, and the Eclipse smartphone attachment, priced at $100. They collect information throughout the day to provide reminders and insights.
1. Devices offer AI reminders
Amazon unveiled the Frontier bracelet and Eclipse, a portable device that attaches to smartphones. The devices aggregate information from calendars, apps and other data to offer reminders and AI-driven insights; the Frontier costs $75 and the Eclipse costs $100.
2. Privacy controls and concerns
Amazon devices chief Panos Panay said the devices listen throughout the day when turned on and can remind users of conversations, to-dos and action items. Amazon said users decide when to turn the devices on and can delete insights or past conversations, and that it does not store audio. The company has faced criticism over reports of people listening to Alexa conversations and is facing a class action lawsuit over the practice; Amazon has denied wrongdoing.
