Amazon reportedly seeks to offload $8 billion of Nvidia chips to investors
AMZN•Amazon is reportedly seeking to move about $8 billion of Nvidia chips into a special-purpose vehicle funded by outside investors, then lease the chips back.
1. Proposed chip vehicle
Amazon has held talks with investors in recent weeks to gauge interest in moving thousands of Grace Blackwell chips into a special-purpose vehicle. The chips are being installed in U.S. data centers, and Amazon would lease them back from the vehicle, which would raise outside capital through debt issuance.
2. Potential equity stake
Amazon plans to offer an equity stake of up to 10% in the vehicle. The chips, which Amazon bought or leased, are installed in more than a dozen data centers across five states, including Nevada and Virginia.
