Amazon rolls out text-based shopping through Alexa
AMZN•Amazon said U.S. customers can use Alexa for Shopping to search for products and make purchases through text messages. The feature is rolling out to a small group of invited customers ahead of a broader launch in the coming weeks.
1. Text-based shopping
Amazon said its AI-powered Alexa for Shopping assistant can help users research and compare products, track deals and price drops, and complete purchases on their behalf. The feature is rolling out to a small group of invited U.S. customers before a broader launch in the coming weeks.
2. Marketplace disputes
The launch follows Amazon’s move to block Meta’s AI shopping agent, Muse, from its marketplace, saying it appeared to access the store without authorization and store customer credentials. Amazon also won a court order blocking Perplexity’s Comet shopping agent in March, but a U.S. appeals court overturned the ban in August; the case remains ongoing.
