Amazon says its AI chips will work with popular coding language, challenging Nvidia
AMZN•Amazon introduced TorchNeuron, a free, open-source tool that lets developers run PyTorch code on its Trainium AI chips with a single configuration change and no rewriting. More than 30 early customers are using the software, Amazon said.
1. Simplifying chip adoption
TorchNeuron lets developers run code written in PyTorch on Amazon’s Trainium AI chips with a single configuration change and no rewriting, according to Amazon’s Annapurna Labs chip unit. Amazon plans to announce the software at a developer conference in Silicon Valley on Monday and release it publicly as a free, open-source offering.
2. More than 30 early users
Colin Brace, Annapurna Labs’ vice president of software, said the tool aims to reduce the steps developers must take to try Amazon’s chips. More than 30 early customers across robotics, world models and voice AI are using it, Brace said, adding that switching to Amazon’s chips can result in steep cost savings.
