Amazon Secures Multibillion-Dollar Corning Fiber Deal with 1,000 New Jobs
AMZN•Amazon agreed to a multiyear, multibillion-dollar purchase of optical fiber, cable and connectivity solutions from Corning for its U.S. data centers, creating roughly 1,000 manufacturing jobs and hundreds of construction positions in North Carolina. This builds on Amazon’s more than $20 billion investment and 26,000 jobs in the state since 2010 and last year’s separate $10 billion cloud expansion plan.
1. Deal Details
Amazon has signed a multiyear, multibillion-dollar agreement with Corning to supply optical fiber, cable and connectivity solutions for its U.S. data center network. The deal secures critical infrastructure components that support Amazon Web Services’ expanding capacity requirements.
2. Job Creation and Training
The agreement will create approximately 1,000 manufacturing positions and hundreds of construction jobs at Corning’s North Carolina facilities. It also launches a training partnership with Catawba Valley Community College to develop a pipeline of fiber optic technicians.
3. Ongoing State Investments
This deal complements Amazon’s existing footprint in North Carolina, where it has invested over $20 billion since 2010 and generated more than 26,000 jobs. It follows a separate $10 billion plan announced last year to expand cloud computing infrastructure in the state.
