Amazon Adds 29 Satellites, Surpasses 390 for LEO Broadband Launch
AMZN•Amazon’s latest United Launch Alliance mission added 29 satellites, boosting its Kuiper constellation to over 390 spacecraft in low Earth orbit. The company says it now has sufficient orbital capacity to begin commercial roll-out of its Amazon LEO broadband service before the end of 2026.
1. Satellite Deployment Milestone
In its July 2 launch from Cape Canaveral, a United Launch Alliance rocket delivered 29 additional Kuiper satellites into low Earth orbit, raising the constellation’s total beyond 390 spacecraft. This mission marked the final Atlas V deployment for Amazon, with future Kuiper launches set to transition to ULA’s Vulcan rocket and other commercial launchers.
2. Commercial Service Roll-out Plans
With the expanded fleet, Amazon plans to begin initial customer trials of its LEO broadband service in targeted regions later this year. Management projects that the current in-orbit capacity meets the minimum threshold for service availability, setting the stage for phased geographic expansion and competitive positioning against existing satellite internet providers.
