Amazon Surpasses 390 Satellites, Prepares Broadband Service Rollout
AMZN•Amazon gained 29 additional satellites on a United Launch Alliance rocket, bringing its Low Earth Orbit constellation to more than 390 spacecraft. This deployment satisfies capacity requirements to begin rolling out its Amazon Leo broadband service before year-end.
1. Satellite Deployment Milestone
A United Launch Alliance rocket delivered 29 new satellites into orbit, raising Amazon’s total Low Earth Orbit constellation to over 390 spacecraft. This marks a significant build-out phase since the program began deploying satellites earlier this year.
2. Amazon Leo Broadband Rollout Plans
With the constellation threshold surpassed, Amazon has met the minimum satellite count needed to initiate its Amazon Leo broadband service. The company plans to start service trials and incremental customer rollouts by year-end in select regions.
3. Competitive Landscape and Outlook
Amazon Leo is positioned as a direct rival to SpaceX’s Starlink, aiming to deliver high-speed internet to underserved and remote locations. Continued launches are expected to expand network capacity and geographic coverage into 2027.
