Amazon Reaches 396-Satellite Constellation, Completing Atlas V Campaign for Leo Launch
AMZN•Amazon expanded its satellite constellation to 396 units after a United Launch Alliance rocket delivered 29 satellites in the final Atlas V mission, completing its current deployment phase. This milestone unlocks capacity for the Amazon Leo broadband rollout slated for later this year and drove a notable share gain.
1. Satellite Constellation Milestone
After a July 2 launch from Cape Canaveral, Amazon’s broadband division added 29 satellites to its low Earth orbit network, bringing the total to 396. This expansion marks a critical capacity threshold for its upcoming Amazon Leo internet service.
2. Final Atlas V Flight Completed
The recent mission was the last under Amazon’s Atlas V contract with United Launch Alliance. Future launches will transition to next-generation vehicles under new procurement agreements, reducing reliance on legacy rockets.
3. Amazon Leo Broadband Rollout
With the constellation now sufficient for initial service, Amazon plans to begin rolling out its Leo broadband network later this year. The company aims to offer low-latency, high-speed internet to underserved regions and compete directly with existing satellite providers.
