AWS achieved $128.7B in revenue and generated $45.6B in operating income in 2025, up 20% year-over-year. This division now accounts for over half of Amazon’s operating profit, subsidizing new retail and technology initiatives.
3. Retail Strategy and Expansion
In January 2026, Amazon discontinued its Amazon Fresh and Go initiatives to redirect capital toward high-margin ventures like Whole Foods. The company plans to launch over 100 new Whole Foods stores and broaden its same-day delivery network to strengthen its e-commerce leadership.
