Amazon Web Services to Acquire 1 Million Nvidia GPUs and Networking Chips by 2027
Nvidia will supply Amazon Web Services with 1 million GPUs from this year through 2027 under a multi-year cloud computing agreement. The deal covers Spectrum networking chips, Connect X gear and seven Nvidia chip types including Groq models for AI inference.
1. Deal Terms and Timeline
The agreement calls for Nvidia to supply AWS with 1 million GPUs starting this year and extending annually through 2027. Shipments will begin later this year and continue through the end of 2027 under the multi-year cloud computing contract.
2. Multi-Chip Portfolio
Beyond GPUs, the deal encompasses a broad range of Nvidia hardware including Spectrum networking chips, Connect X and Spectrum X gear, and seven distinct chip models such as newly licensed Groq processors. AWS will deploy this diverse chip portfolio to optimize data center performance and scale AI operations.
3. AI Inference Integration
AWS intends to integrate the chips across its AI inference stack, employing all seven Nvidia chip types for high-efficiency model inference. The inclusion of Connect X and Spectrum X networking equipment also enhances data throughput for AWS’s largest AI workloads.
4. Strategic Context
The timeline aligns with Nvidia’s projection of a $1 trillion sales opportunity for its Rubin and Blackwell chip families through 2027, underscoring the strategic importance of large-scale cloud partnerships in driving future revenue growth.
