Amazon’s Project Kuiper Secures Vodafone Backhaul Deal While AWS Facilities Hit by Drone Strikes

AMZNAMZN

Amazon’s Project Kuiper will supply high-speed satellite backhaul for Vodafone’s remote 4G and 5G sites across Europe and Africa, extending carrier networks into underserved regions. Separately, drone strikes on three AWS data centers in the Middle East caused structural, power and water damage, elevating error rates and degrading availability.

1. Project Kuiper Vodafone Partnership

Amazon’s Project Kuiper will provide high-speed satellite backhaul to Vodafone for remote 4G and 5G sites across Europe and Africa. By embedding itself within existing carrier networks rather than bypassing towers, Amazon aims to extend connectivity into hard-to-reach regions and strengthen its role in global telecom infrastructure.

2. AWS Middle East Data Center Strikes

Drone strikes directly hit two AWS facilities in the United Arab Emirates and one in Bahrain, causing structural damage, disrupted power delivery and water damage from fire suppression. These incidents have elevated error rates and degraded availability for regional customers, prompting Amazon to work on repairs, urge data backups and recommend workload migration to other regions.
