Amcor announced collaboration with UK startup Kelpi to evaluate its proprietary bio-based seaweed coating technology for its AmFiber fiber packaging platform, aiming to enhance barrier performance and recyclability. The project targets renewable feedstocks and lower carbon footprints by incorporating seaweed-derived coatings into scalable fiber-based solutions across consumer goods sectors.
Amcor has entered a collaboration with UK-based Kelpi to evaluate a proprietary seaweed-derived coating technology designed for fiber-based packaging. The initiative will assess gas and moisture barrier performance, processability at high running speeds and compatibility with existing recycling streams.
By integrating Kelpi’s bio-based coatings into its AmFiber™ platform, Amcor aims to reduce reliance on fossil feedstocks and lower the carbon footprint of its packaging solutions. Leveraging global R&D capabilities and scale, the companies will explore commercially viable, scalable applications across multiple consumer goods sectors to support circular economy goals.
