AMD•AMD agreed to acquire AI model and research lab World Labs in an all-stock deal valued at about $8.2 billion. Fei-Fei Li is set to join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist, and the deal is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to customary conditions.
1. Deal targets spatial AI
World Labs develops spatial-intelligence models that generate and simulate interactive 3D environments from text, images and video. AMD said the deal targets AI compute needs tied to reasoning, robotics, simulation and physical AI, and will shape its hardware and software roadmap.
2. Leadership and timing
Fei-Fei Li is set to join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist, reporting to CEO Lisa Su. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to customary conditions.
