AMD and TCS Unveil 200 MW AI Data Centers to Challenge Nvidia in India
AMD and Tata Consultancy Services will co-develop Helios rack-scale architecture in India supporting up to 200 megawatts of AI capacity with Instinct MI455X GPUs, EPYC “Venice” CPUs and ROCm software. The project taps TCS’s HyperVault to create hyperscaler-ready data centers, positioning AMD as an open alternative to Nvidia in India.
1. Partnership Scope
Advanced Micro Devices and Tata Consultancy Services have launched a collaboration to roll out Helios rack-scale AI data centers across India, targeting up to 200 megawatts of compute capacity under TCS’s HyperVault initiative.
2. Technical Blueprint
The joint design integrates AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs, next-generation EPYC “Venice” CPUs and Pensando Vulcano networking atop the Helios architecture, leveraging the ROCm software stack to offer an open, scalable platform for hyperscale AI workloads.
3. Implications for Nvidia
By positioning Helios as an open alternative, this build-out challenges Nvidia’s near-monopoly in AI deployments; AMD now captures an estimated 20–25% share of new AI chip deployments, pressuring Nvidia’s dominance in hyperscale data center markets.
