American Airlines Selects Starlink for 500 Airbus A321neos Next Year
LUV•American Airlines will install Starlink hardware on about 500 narrow-body Airbus jets including A321neos starting early next year, retaining Viasat and Panasonic on Boeing aircraft. The carrier cut its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS forecast to a loss of $0.40–a profit of $1.10 from prior $1.70–$2.70 as fuel headwinds increase.
1. Starlink Integration on Airbus Fleet
Starting early next year, American Airlines will equip approximately 500 narrow-body Airbus jets, including the A321neo, with Starlink connectivity hardware. Boeing aircraft will continue with existing Viasat and Panasonic systems, while Amazon’s Project Kuiper evaluation remains ongoing for potential future use.
2. Loyalty, Premium Experience and Monetization
Free in-flight Wi-Fi for AAdvantage members launched in January as part of a push to enhance premium cabins and loyalty program appeal. The airline is exploring targeted mid-flight advertising and ancillary revenue streams, building on record 2025 revenue of nearly $55 billion and 7% growth in loyalty enrollment.
3. Revised 2026 Guidance and Financial Trends
Rising fuel costs prompted American to lower its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS outlook to a range of a $0.40 loss to $1.10 profit, down from $1.70–$2.70. Despite this, managed corporate revenue grew 13% year over year in the first quarter, reflecting steady demand across its network.
