American Airlines warns of deeper potential losses as fuel bill spikes
AAL•Peers also face higher fuel costs
American joins smaller peer Southwest LUV.N, which also narrowed its full-year profit forecast, citing elevated fuel costs.
Rival Delta DAL.N, on the other hand, maintained its annual earnings target while United Airlines UAL.O raised the lower end of its 2026 profit range, as they see demand holding strong despite higher fares.
American shares fell down 3.4% before the bell.
Jet fuel had surged above $5 per gallon during spring before retreating sharply in June, following a truce between Washington and Tehran. Oil prices have climbed again since the fragile agreement collapsed in early July, renewing upward pressure on airline fuel costs.
