American Rare Earths has engaged Tetra Tech to conduct an oxide-to-metal study for its Halleck Creek project in Wyoming, assessing pathways to convert heavy rare earth oxides into metal. The study will evaluate samarium, gadolinium, terbium and dysprosium processing technologies and deliver process flow diagrams, mass balances and cost estimates.

American Rare Earths has engaged US engineering group Tetra Tech to conduct a key oxide-to-metal study for its flagship Halleck Creek rare earths project in Wyoming, marking a shift towards midstream integration.

2. Heavy Rare Earths Focus

The work targets the critical heavy rare earth elements samarium, gadolinium, terbium and dysprosium, which are essential for high-temperature permanent magnets used in electric vehicles, defence systems and clean energy technologies.

3. Study Deliverables

Tetra Tech will assess processing options such as molten salt electrolysis and calciothermic reduction, and provide a preferred technology pathway, process flow diagrams, mass balances, major equipment lists and preliminary capital and operating cost estimates.

4. Strategic Integration

This initiative advances American Rare Earths’ vision of a Wyoming-based mine-to-magnet supply chain by evaluating metal production integration with planned refining operations, reducing reliance on foreign midstream processors.
