American Water Replaces 1,000-Foot Carmel Pipe and Outlines MARC Reliability Strategies
AWK•American Water’s subsidiary completed a 1,000-foot water main replacement in Carmel, upgrading cast-iron to PVC and adding new fire services to bolster system reliability and capacity. Company leaders also presented at MARC 2026 panels on balancing water affordability, resilience and inter-sector collaboration, reinforcing its regulatory positioning.
1. Carmel Infrastructure Upgrade Completed
California American Water finished replacing approximately 1,000 feet of nearly 100-year-old, four-inch cast iron pipe along Dolores Street with eight-inch PVC pipe, enhancing flow capacity and fire protection. The project also included the installation of six new commercial fire services, replacement of 52 domestic service laterals and a new hydrant to reduce service interruptions.

Senior executives led panel discussions at MARC 2026 on ensuring water reliability, affordability and environmental responsibility amid aging infrastructure and regulatory challenges.
