American Water Subsidiaries Commit $1.035B to Infrastructure During Fix a Leak Week

American Water’s subsidiaries in California, Missouri, Illinois and Iowa rolled out household leak-detection tips for EPA Fix a Leak Week 2026. They accompany infrastructure modernization investments totaling $1.035 billion, including $200 million in California, $500 million in Missouri, $280 million in Illinois and $55 million in Iowa.

1. Fix a Leak Week Campaign

California American Water, Missouri American Water, Illinois American Water and Iowa American Water each launched EPA Fix a Leak Week 2026 initiatives, sharing step-by-step guidance to help residential customers identify and repair common household leaks.

2. Infrastructure Modernization Investments

Collectively, the four subsidiaries are investing $1.035 billion in water and wastewater infrastructure: $200 million over three years in California, $500 million this year in Missouri, $280 million in 2025 in Illinois and $55 million last year in Iowa.

3. Household Leak-Detection Tips Provided

Customers were advised to test toilet flappers with dye tablets, inspect and tighten dripping faucets, check washing machine and dishwasher connections, examine showerheads and bathtub spouts for leaks, and monitor boiler systems for continuous running water.

4. Implications for Customers and Operations

Finding and fixing leaks can conserve over 90 gallons per home daily, reduce customers’ utility bills, decrease system water loss and support long-term infrastructure reliability across the four states.
