Since 2020, Illinois American Water has replaced more than 5,200 lead or galvanized steel service lines to comply with new regulations.

Illinois American Water’s Illinois River water treatment plant in Peoria and its Granite City facility both received the Partnership for Safe Water’s 25-year Directors Award in June 2026. The designation reflects two decades of continuous optimization in treatment operations and distribution performance, underscoring the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality drinking water.
2. Lead Service Line Replacement and Compliance
Since 2020, Illinois American Water has replaced over 5,200 lead or galvanized steel service lines across its Illinois service area to align with evolving state and federal lead regulations. The initiative supports long-term system sustainability and reinforces the utility’s focus on safe, clean and reliable service delivery.
