American Express said its cards can now be used at more than 190 million merchant locations worldwide. Acceptance outside the U.S. has more than doubled over the past four years as the company focuses on international markets, travel destinations and restaurants.

The company said it has targeted locations including Barcelona, Hong Kong, Paris, Sicily, Mexico City and Melbourne. Billed business on American Express-issued cards rose 9% to $455.8 billion in the most recent quarter, while quarterly revenue grew 10% to $19.6 billion in July.
