Anchor Capital says JSE fell 5.8% in September as precious metal miners dragged index
EZA•Anchor Capital said the FTSE/JSE Capped All Share fell 5.8% in September, with gold miners down 15% and platinum miners down 7%.
1. Miners weigh on index
Precious metal miners cut index performance by more than 3%, while Naspers fell 12% and Prosus slid 8%, trimming about 1% from September performance as Tencent dropped 5%. Domestic cyclicals weakened 3.3%, while general retailers rose 5%, with Shoprite gaining 6% and Boxer climbing 3.6%. The SARB lifted rates by 0.25% to a 10.75% prime lending rate; the rand ended at R16.42 per dollar and the 10-year yield rose to 9%.
