AngioDynamics study links IRE treatment to longer survival in stage III pancreatic cancer
ANGO•AngioDynamics announced publication of DIRECT study results linking treatment with irreversible electroporation to longer survival than standard care alone in stage III pancreatic cancer; the nonrandomized study cannot establish causation.
1. Study results published
The DIRECT study, published in The Oncologist, evaluated NanoKnife-based treatment in patients with stage III pancreatic cancer. Treatment incorporating irreversible electroporation was associated with longer survival than standard care alone, but the nonrandomized study cannot establish causation.
2. Code takes effect in 2027
A new Category I CPT code for open pancreatic irreversible electroporation takes effect January 1, 2027, standardizing procedure reporting. The code does not guarantee insurance coverage or payment, which vary by payer, plan and treatment setting. AngioDynamics said prostate cancer remains the NanoKnife System’s commercial priority, with investment concentrated there.
