Apple unveiled Siri AI, a system-level assistant powered by Google Gemini, integrating automated features like onscreen awareness, inbox search and real-time web responses into iOS. The move embeds AI across Apple devices, potentially eroding competitors’ distribution advantages by surfacing context-aware suggestions directly in the operating system.
Apple unveiled what it describes as its biggest AI update yet by embedding Google Gemini into Siri. This shift brings advanced machine-learning capabilities directly into iOS and macOS without reliance on standalone apps.
Siri AI can now search buried emails and texts, provide context-aware onscreen suggestions and deliver up-to-date web answers nearly instantly. It also stores chat histories across devices for seamless access to previous interactions.
By integrating AI at the operating-system level, Apple challenges third-party developers’ distribution model, as built-in Siri can bypass App Store constraints and strengthen user retention within Apple’s ecosystem.
