Apple expected to show first touchscreen laptops amid product blitz
AAPL•Apple is expected to unveil its first touchscreen MacBooks on Wednesday, as it launches products ahead of the holiday shopping season. Touchscreen models reportedly would use existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, without a significant performance boost over current models.
1. Touchscreen MacBooks expected
Apple is expected to unveil its first touchscreen MacBooks at an event in Los Angeles on Wednesday, after launching a folding iPhone called Duo in September and a smart home hub earlier this month. The launches come ahead of the holiday shopping season.
2. A change in approach
Apple executives have long resisted touchscreens on laptops. Touchscreen Windows devices have been widely available for more than a decade, and analyst Anshel Sag said he believes the shift is inevitable. Apple this week announced an upgraded base MacBook Pro with an M6 chip; touchscreen models reportedly would use existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, without a significant performance boost over current models.
